| Barron's has named Jack Ma, CEO of Alibaba Group and Chairman of Alibaba.com, one of the 30 World's Best CEOs. Jack was chosen because he led the company to "out-eBay eBay". Here is what Barron's said about him:
Meet the man who put China on the Net.
Ma, 43, is the founder of Alibaba Group, which owns stakes in the publicly traded company Alibaba.com-the world's biggest Internet IPO since Google-and a host of other Internet companies in China.
A former Red Guard, then an English-language teacher, Ma made Alibaba.com the largest business-to-business e-commerce site in China, connecting small and mid-sized manufacturers with foreign buyers seeking Chinese production in volume. Alibaba Group today operates six companies, including an online auction site that holds 83% of the market, versus 7% for eBay China.
Alibaba, 43%-owned by Yahoo!, is one of that company's star performers-something Microsoft has doubtless noticed while bidding for Yahoo!. Ma has been taking his own star turn as one of three main judges on China Central Television's version of The Apprentice. Chinese entrepreneurs, and Microsoft execs, are surely glued to their TVs.
Assembled by Barron's, a prestigious weekly financial magazine, the "World's Best CEOs" is an annual list of the 30 best corporate leaders worldwide. Other CEOs who also made the list include Warren Buffett of Berkshire Hathaway, Steve Jobs of Apple, John Chambers of Cisco, and Mark Hurd of Hewlett-Packard, etc. Click here to read more. |
