Suitcase Bike Can Take a Hike

The point of a folding bike is to make it easily storable when you're not riding it. A design succeeds or fails on the speed of converting it, and to a lesser extent on the folded size. The Brompton is the king of foldable bikes for a reason. When Danny reviewed one a couple of weeks back, he had it broken down in 25 seconds. In Barcelona, where I live, there are a huge number of plegable (foldable) bikes and I see people wrap them up in much less time. With a little practice it's quicker than locking it to a post. The Chinese made Suitcase Bike, then, is less than successful. From the video we can see that not only are there an awkward number of catches and compartments, but you actually have to remove the peddles and saddle to fit everything inside the box. That's another cardinal rule broken. If it's removable, you will lose it. The big selling point here is the airline regulation size and weight. You can check the bike as if it were a suitcase. Handy I suppose but, in Europe at least, you can hire a proper bike in any major town. Source:http://blog.wired.com/
